For Year 9 student Zeb, enrolling in Haileybury Pangea online school means he can access a world-class education while enjoying broad opportunities from the comfort of his family home in regional Victoria.
Zeb had been attending a local private school, but in 2024 joined Haileybury Pangea online school as he was seeking an education format that was more flexible and tailored to his interests. The School is known for offering students a structured blend of online, live, small class-size formats along with self-paced learning allocations.

“We loved the idea that Zeb could study anywhere, anytime, or even on holidays,” say parents Catherine and Luke. “The self-paced learning of Haileybury Pangea lets him dive deeply into subjects he loves without ever feeling rushed.”
An unexpected benefit of Haileybury Pangea is that Zeb has also found that the learning format is equipping him with future-ready skills. “I love working at my own pace and being able to study the subjects I’m really interested in. I’m learning organisational skills and know how to manage my workload and priorities to get the most from my learning,” he says.
His parents agree. “Haileybury Pangea also teaches real-world skills like organisation, time management and independence minus the sit-still in-one-spot all day routine. Zeb is an active kid which means he can easily balance his interests and being outdoors with his workload.”
Tim Christie, Head of Middle and Pre-Senior School at Haileybury Pangea agrees Zeb’s skills are growing. “Within the Haileybury Pangea Middle School, staff and students place a strong emphasis on the development of daily and weekly organisation skills, recognising that these are lifelong skills many adults continue to refine. Zeb has enthusiastically embraced this focus and has consistently modelled exemplary organisational habits.”
A year after joining the School, Zeb’s enthusiasm and commitment were recognised when he was elected as a Year Level Student Representative for 2025, an experience he describes as “amazing” and one that has helped to build his confidence and leadership skills.
According to Tim Christie, Head of Middle and Pre-Senior School at Haileybury Pangea, Zeb has made a significant and positive impact in his role as Year Level Representative.
“Through this leadership role, Zeb effectively gathered and represented the ideas and perspectives of the Year 8 cohort, advocating for initiatives that reflected his year level’s interests and needs. His contributions highlighted his strong communication skills, sense of responsibility and genuine commitment to enhancing the school community.”
Other highlights of Zeb’s Haileybury Pangea journey have been his involvement in extracurricular activities, including the Haileybury Pangea Chess Club and the national Australian Geography Competition, where he earned a High Distinction.

Outside of school, Zeb enjoys tennis, mountain biking, paddleboarding, F1 and AFL. The flexibility of Haileybury Pangea means he can arrange his study around fulfilling these interests while also reaching out to his teachers if he has questions or needs any one-on-one support. “I know that once my work is done, I get more time for the things I enjoy. That’s pretty motivating,” he explains.
The family also value the sense of community and support. “We can track his learning anytime, and the school is responsive, understanding and supportive. It feels like a genuine partnership. The teachers genuinely want him to succeed and grow. That level of individual focus has made a huge difference to him academically and to his confidence,” they say.
Making the transition to online learning went smoothly, with Zeb finding he could make friends within the online learning format. “We all share similar interests, which makes it easy to connect even if you’re not in close proximity,” he says.
Zeb’s favourite subjects are French and Humanities and in the future he would like to be a forensic investigator, restore vintage cars, and travel.
Zeb’s parents, Catherine and Luke are strong advocates of the Haileybury Pangea online school offering and are happy to share that if other parents are “looking for flexibility, high-quality teaching, and a school that values your child as an individual whilst still providing the frameworks for them to be challenged to be the best version of themselves, Haileybury Pangea is absolutely worth considering.”
