Learning without limits: The Haileybury Pangea advantage

NEWS 27 Aug 2025

Haileybury Pangea student Eli enjoys the unique privilege of combining his education with life on the move. Whether the Year 7 student is exploring the breathtaking Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia or hiking Mungo National Park in New South Wales, he brings his schooling with him, wherever he goes.

Haileybury Pangea online school’s innovative approach to learning is opening up new worlds of possibilities for students like Eli and their families. The students have the flexibility to travel, pursue personal goals and spend more time in their preferred learning environments while accessing a robust education. This is because with their School’s online model they can learn anywhere and anytime they have access to a device.

“Our students come from many different backgrounds — some have significant sporting careers, others are talented performing artists with demanding schedules, and others simply find this more personalised model of learning suits them better,” says Joanna Baker, Head of Campus, Haileybury Pangea.

Haileybury Pangea teaches the VCE and delivers a rigorous curriculum to Years 5–12 in Victoria and the Northern Territory. A school week includes a blend of live lessons, self-paced projects, video content, assessment tasks and one-on-one or small group-based time with teachers.

Haileybury Pangea student, Eli, greatly benefits from the School’s flexibility which allows him to have a rigorous education while being on the road. His mother operates a business from their mobile home, which means the family travels extensively, combining business commitments with exploring Australia.

Eli usually logs on for his school day at 8.30 am and finishes between 3.00 pm and 4.00 pm. On days when he has fewer classes scheduled, he travels or explores the local surroundings with his family.

While learning remotely and being frequently on the move, Eli remains socially active through the School’s encouragement of online collaboration and social groups.

Year 10 student Marly, based in regional Victoria, also loves that the School has enabled her to meet and build friendships with peers living in diverse locations.

Marly, who combines her schooling with extensive equestrian commitments, says, “It’s nice having school friends and riding friends all over the place.”

Marly says that since starting at Haileybury Pangea she has been able to balance her equestrian commitments with reduced school commute times and a more adaptable school routine.

“With online learning I can work my horses in the morning before class and even ride during the day between lessons,” she explains. “I can keep up with school while still training and competing.”

This year, the dedicated equestrian competed in an international competition in Mexico, and trained in Florida, USA. This opportunity was made possible by the School’s flexible learning model and the ongoing support of her teachers, which allowed her to maintain her studies while training and competing internationally.

“My family and I chose Haileybury Pangea because it’s a really great school with high standards, and it also has a flexible timetable that works really well with my competition schedule. It has been a perfect fit for my sport and my learning,” she says.

Haileybury Pangea is also redefining what it means to learn for regional and remotely based students, like Noah in Year 8. The School has given him the tools and confidence to thrive, while allowing him and his family to spend more time on the family farm. This would not be possible if Noah was attending a traditional school in Melbourne.

“I love the welcoming community and the flexibility when it comes to my learning,” he says. In addition, the adaptable approach has also enabled him to maintain a number of diverse interests, such as karate and sword fighting.

In essence, Haileybury Pangea’s flexible online model empowers students to excel academically while embracing their individual passions and lifestyles. It means that students like Eli can keep exploring Australia, accessing his education from anywhere.
