A flexible way to study a VCE language online
A Haileybury Pangea single subject is a complete two-year sequence, covering Units 1 and 2 followed by Units 3 and 4, taught by a brilliant Haileybury VCE teacher through Haileybury Pangea online school. Students remain enrolled at their existing school for everything else and add a VCE language through Haileybury Pangea on top of that program.
The subject sits on the student's Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) record exactly as if it had been studied at their school. It contributes to the ATAR through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) the same way as any other senior subject, and students sit the same external exam, including the oral examination, every other Year 12 in Victoria sits.
Haileybury Pangea offers more than 20 VCE subjects as single subjects, including French and Latin, alongside Specialist Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology, Legal Studies and Economics. Students at other schools can take up to two single subjects at any time.

A learning model designed for balance
Haileybury Pangea delivers each VCE language through two live lessons each week, supported by self-paced work students complete in their own time. Lessons may sit during the school day or after school hours.
Classes are small and taught by qualified Haileybury VCE language teachers, with the same back-and-forth, questioning and feedback as a classroom. For a subject where the VCAA oral examination demands sustained spoken interaction in the target language, the live model matters; a pre-recorded video can teach vocabulary, but it cannot ask the student a follow-up question, correct their pronunciation in the moment or push them past the polite paragraph they have memorised.
Maintaining academic rigour and ATAR pathways
A flexible timetable does not mean a reduced curriculum. The single subject follows the VCAA-published study design, includes the same school-assessed coursework (SACs) and ends with the same external written and oral examinations every other VCE student sits.
The study score is moderated through VTAC's standard scaling, sits on the official VCE Statement of Results and feeds into the ATAR calculation in the usual way. VCE languages have historically been among the more strongly scaled subjects, and adding a language as a sixth subject can lift the final ATAR meaningfully when the result is strong.
